Dungeon Bash Minis

Myself a few other members of OGRE (I assume I'm a member, I've never paid a sub or anything........) will be meeting at Erny's Place, (not this one http://ernysplace.blogspot.co.uk/ but his actual gaff, the one with the kitchen that appears in a lot of his photo's, being his brother I can verify it does indeed exist and is not a mythical land) for a dungeon bash.

Erny's putting together rules for this that he's bashing together from 3rd edition.

I'm going to be playing a Wizard character and the mini I've selected is this one from Otherworld Miniatures (http://otherworldminiatures.co.uk/)

I'll be painting mine up as a Grey Wizard (yeah, I know colour magic isn't strictly speaking 3rd but hey ho, it's Oldhammer not Rulehammer) because I love the manipulative nature of a Grey Wizard, secretly moving chess pieces in the furtherance of the "greater good" (a very useful plot device too!).

I also picked up the following minis because, well, because they're rather gorgeous to be honest.

Can't wait for them to arrive so I can begin my paint splodging of the Wizard!

Warning, This Post Contains Blury Images........................ You Have Been Warned

At BOYL 2014 Orlygg said I should post some more photo's of my horde up.

I tried doing some today as it was a rainy bank holiday and I couldn't be *rsed to do anything else. Sadly I have yet again proven my incompetence at taking decent photographs - D'OH - One of these days I'll manage to take decent photos!

Everything I presently have painted for my Skaven, looking at it here it looks very small
My main Clan Rat Block

One of two smaller units of Clan Rats

My Storm Vermin, a WIP as I need to boost their number, far too small to be effective in a Skaven horde

Black Skaven

One of my Slave units
Gutter Runners

More Gutter Runners

Plague Censors
Plague Monks

A small unit of Rat Ogres
Giant Rats

Poison Wind Globadiers

A Warpfire Thrower

Jezzails - I've always thought the maximum of 4 in Warhammer Armies was a tad stingy!

My Seers and Warlocks

I can't think of a title

The Snickit burrow will be invaded for a couple of weeks by a friend in need of a bed for a week or two which means my hobby room is now once again filled with the junk that was living in our guest room. I shouldn't really call it junk because it's actually the still unpacked boxes after moving home at the start of the year. Why is any of this relevant to you good reader? Simple, my paints are behind a wall of boxes so it's unlikely I'll get much painting done in the next couple of weeks - D'OH! That's my Nordlanders halted before they got off the ground!
I've decided to use this hiatus from the paint splodging to finish a post I drafted a few days back, prior to Mr. Rab posting up this http://geeklydigest.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/elmore-giant-wip-1.html#more and beating me to the idea of of a project list!!!!!

The gist was that it appears that my calendar now works slightly differently, instead of running from January to December since last year it now runs between BOYL’s.

So what does my painting list consist of:

  • The troops to play “The Battle of Maugthrond Pass” 4th edition scenario.

  •  Crack on with my 4th edition High Elves.

  • Convert and paint up my 3rd edition Treeman destruction protocol.

  • The Renaissance minis (Nordlanders) I picked up whilst at the Foundry.

  • Finish my 3rd edition Dwarfs

This doesn’t mean all I paint will appear at BOYL 2015 (although they may) more that it’s my targets to get done before the two weeks building up to the event where my furious painting of Skaven reinforcements will begin in earnest.
On top of all of this I also need to look at how to float Clan Snickit on the ocean. Ideally I'd have slave galleys or paddle ships worked by rat ogres. Not sure how I'm going to work that one but if I want to join in the salty sea dog fun at BOYL 2105 it's a must.

Apparently this won't be taken seriously.........................

Right, I'm off to scope out some ships to steal and paint Skaven symbols all over.......................

Snickit went to Foundry and he bought..................................

Some Renaissance halberdiers, crossbowmen, hand gunners, brigantis, mercenaries and peasants (the latter two being the famous ex-citadel minis http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/our-ranges/ex-citadel/mercenaries).

I'm going to paint them up as Empire Nordlanders to form a chunk of the troops from the "Revenge of the Doomlord" scenario from the 4th edition Undead book. Sadly although I had this plan in mind when I got there the delicious minis coupled with the deals that Foundry where offering up I went a bit mad - oppppssssss!

All what I bought!

These two ex-citadel minis will be the fledgling forces commanders.

A spare musician and Champion who can be used as needed.

I haven't based this chap yet as I intend to convert him into a standard bearer

Handgunners/Hakbutschutzen
Brigantis to be used as Swordsmen/Ersatzsolder (in 3rd you need 30 for 3000pts but just 10 for 1000pts)

Halberdiers/Helblitzen

Crossbowmen/Armbrustschutzen

Landesturm (again, you should have 30 in 3rd for a 3000pt army but just 10 in 1000pts)

Acknowledgment of a Brilliant but Flawed Imagination.

We don't read and write poetry because it's cute.

We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race and the human race is filled with passion.

Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life but poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

To quote from Whitman; "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?"

Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse.

That the powerful play "goes on" and you may contribute a verse.

What will your verse be?

BOYL 2014 or "I hate Treemen but looooooove Jungle Meat"

I'm back from "Bring Out Your Lead 2014" and sitting down with my feet up. It's amazing how tiring a three day siege is (with nightly breaks for some excellent ales, a Jungle Meat kebab* and a smidgen of sleep). A massive thank you to Bryan Ansell, his Family and Staff who made us all so very welcome. Today we also got a guided tour of the new Foundry premises and house by Bryan himself. The facility is based in the grounds of his house and whilst there is still a lot of work to be done before it's completed it looks like it promises to be an excellent venue and one that Bryan has said will always be open to the Oldhammer community, which no one would ever deny makes a fitting venue for our annual gatherings.

On to the gaming!

My Skaven were part of the Evil Alliance attempting to take the city of Avalone. Sadly we failed in out efforts to take the castle. To be fair it was a flipping long walk and there was a LOT of Treemen to get through (10+) and those b#ggers take some felling. There were many deployed against my Skaven and frankly if I never see another one again in my lifetime then I'll be a very happy Rat. I tried Warpfire, Poison Wind, Plague Censers and ranked up Clan Rats, all bounced off of them and the Ents minced everything in their paths in return.

I attempted to tunnel under the walls to spring a surprise on the defenders but this was a miserable failure. I only got a few units into the castle grounds itself due to narrow gap filled by routers, a wind blast spell that seemed to never end and some very stubborn defending by Slann, Helblitzen, Estalians and, dare I admit it, Halflings - the shame of it!

Even though we didn't really come close to taking the city I feel my own personal objective was achieved, Warlord Snickit had already decided that if he couldn't take the city above ground he'd play the long game instead. The good people of Avalone now have an outpost of the Skaven Under Empire living beneath their feet. The sewers are infested and as the city goes about it's daily life the Skaven will endure, they will grow in numbers and one day they will rise up and take the city.

Probably the most important part of the weekend was making new friends to play games with. Indeed it looks like those of us in the Bedfordshire region will be aiming to meet up soon and hopefully make it a semi-regular occasion. If nothing else then the weekend was worth it for that! I look forward to taking to the field to playing Fimir, High Elves and Bretonnians and then hit the space lanes to play some Rogue Trader!

Below are a selection photos I took of the event. First up a few shots of the display cabinets with some classics from White Dwarf and other publications:

Next up the awesome Si-Fi scenery made by Whiskey Priest, I am soooooooo going to push to get a game on this stuff!

And now some photos of the siege:
