And my Orctober Special Character Paint up is................................

Grom The Paunch of Misty Mountain.

This guy has been my favourite Orc and Goblin Special Character since the 4th edition boxed set, only taken me nigh on 18 years to get him painted! He's not completed yet but I'm very pleased with the progress so far.................................

Once he's complete I guess I'll have to get his nemesis done at last too........................

  1. Classic! I loved the Goblin invasion of Ulthuan story arc and the battle reports as a kid. Looking good there, nicely done.

  2. Actually, for painting Grom, I'd put you forward straight away as the winner of Orctober. But he's your brother, and, well - you know what people will say...

  3. Awwwwww, thanks guys, still a lot of Orctober to go so I'm not done yet! I loved them too WP so much so that I want to run a 4th edition participation game of the Battle for Maugthrond Pass at an Oldhammer event, with all of the mini's instead of the card mock ups, I may have to borrow Earnies spear toting Gobbos though

    1. Ahhhhh but is that as Elves or Gobbos?

    2. I could never bring myself to roll dice on behalf of High Elves!

    3. Racist..................................

    4. Aha! I get to regale you with my semantic knowledge! I love it when that happens! Race is used only to define Human types, therefore the High Elves are a species and not a race. Fascinating stuff I'm sure you'll agree! So, technically, I'm being specist. :D

    5. ps - if the laws of physics are f*cked with in the Warhammer World I'm pretty sure those of semantics can be too................................

    6. Allow a human evolutionary geneticists to interject for a moment. Race don't mean nothing it is a human construct, same with species really (you can get fertile mules if you do enough crosses...). Back in the day race meant about the same thing as species, the race of man, the race of pigs etc.. So in a fantasy pseudo historical setting not liking a subset of a fantasy species could very well be called racist...or not.

    7. Thank you for clearing that up............ or not....................

  4. Looking good rat fan. If there were a Gobbo to paint up that'd be the one. I got a couple of em off eBeast awhile ago for my thrice failed green skin horde. Good luck chum there's no better competition than brotherly.

  5. Hmmmmmn, I'd have to go some to rival Ernies Greenskin Horde but I reckon I can get a core completed with a bit of luck.

  6. Always had a prejudice against Special Characters (I think because Tyrion seemed to get involved in pretty much every skirmish in the Warhammer World circa 5th ed.), but you're doing a fantastic job painting this one, full of character (which... um... I guess is what it should be)

  7. If they're not super powered then I have no issue with them. Grom isn't that hard and certainly has many weaknesses so I don't mind him and as you say, the miniature is full of character so that's as good a reason as any to paint him up. Top cheesy special characters would be (in no particular order) Deathmaster Snickch, Tyrion & Teclis, Arbaal the Undefeated, Egrimm Van Horstmann, Nagash (also possibly the worst GW miniature ever), Thorgrim Grudgebearer and Makekith (oh and the Everqueen in 5th).

  8. Great looking figure. I remember staying away from the characters because I wanted to define my own. Stupid really.

  9. I agree to an extent, they're quite nice just to own and paint up though. The original Tyrion model is still one of my favourite Jes Goodwin sculpts ever.
