My first unit is nearly finished. I'm really happy with how the paint scheme is working out. It's really simple but effective.
I'm planning something special for the shields, standard and champion. Hopefully I'll have them completed in time for my next update.
Looking good! Very crisp colour scheme. I'm back up in Liverpool and picking up many of my High Elves to go in the dettol. These will be among them.
ReplyDeleteThese are simply the first of many, I'm working on plastics to get the scheme locked down, then moving onto the lead!
DeleteVery cool. Painting has a 4th edition-ish look to it ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat was the look I was aiming for but without the red!
DeleteWhat paint are you using for the gold bits? I always had trouble painting gold on my high elves. Silver was fine, gold was yuck.
ReplyDeleteI've had issues with gold in the past too, this was Army Painter Greedy Gold and it took two coats but it was the Soft Tone ink was that brought it to life.
DeleteArmy Painter paints are top notch IMHO, love 'em!
I have to agree with seƱor snicket the AP line is really top notch. Except for the dip.
DeleteAgreed, the dips aren't good, and quite expensive.
DeleteLooking great especially for a speed paint. Loving the colour scheme on these classic plastics, really looking forward to seeing the unit finished. If I may; on metallics dilute the dark tone a wee but more or use a flow enhancer and use the edge of your brush and literally pull it down from top to bottom across the painting surface. I keep a bone dry brush on the side to collect any large pooling.
ReplyDeleteThis is the technique I used on my skaven spears and other metallics and it has turned out really well. Then again I use a very dark metallic paint.
Once again looking great!
I'm soft tone over the entire model, part of the speed painting methodology I'm applying but will certainly take your advice onboard matey.
DeleteGreat job on those elves -- its a really dramatic paint job. I love those crazy plastic sculpts with their big, armoured skirts and peaked helmets. Can't wait to see the standards and shields...
ReplyDeleteCheers Dude, being worked on at the moment!
