F*CK YOU TREEBEARD!!!!!

I haven't posted up my BOYL2016 progress recently on here as I've been busy trying to get the painting done. I haven't finished yet but I'm nearly there.

First up is my Anti-Ent team, drafted in after a mauling a few years back.

I'm really pleased with my Vermin Lord, I wasn't sure how he was going to turn out, I just started painting him and he ended up like this, which I think is rather spiffing. Normally I have an idea in my head what I want the thing I'm painting to look like, not so here.

He's going to represent Praznagar, Prince of Agony, Daemon General of the Horned Rat (AHQ baddie), for our big Saturday bash. I'll either roll up a Greater Daemon or a Daemon Prince. The latter would be more characterful and accurate so I think that's the route I'll go down.

Next up is the Spearmen for the Battle for Maugthrond Pass. I still have 5 left to paint to use in "The Rise of Morcar"BFG at BOYL but I have enough for the scenario I'm running on the Sunday. As per usual I still have banners and shields to finish off.

A Nurgle Chaos Sorcerer to summon the Great Unclean One above (a Tzeentch Sorcerer is on the painting table as I type).

B*gger, I need to neaten up his base............................

Lastly I've painted up a bunch of Orc war machine crew................................... OK, I still have to finish the war machines but they, again, are on the way. These war machines are to be added to the Orc contingent for the Morcar game on the Saturday.

First of the crews are the Boyz for the Stone Thrower for the Battle for Maugthrond Pass.

+1 to be Skull Crusher crew in 3rd Ed.

The 6 (yes, that's 6) crew needed for a Man Mangler in 3rd Ed.

spot the difference for Man Mangler number two.

Bolt Thower crew.

Another set of crew for a second Bolt Thrower.

and lastly, just to prove I've painted all of the crewa and not just photographed the same figures a second time.

Righteo, I'm off to bed, night peeps.

An Elfy Dose of Archers

Finally got back to painting again after a few interruptions and I've managed to get my High Elf Archers for the Battle for Maugthrond Pass for BOYL2016 finished off.

Queue dodgy photos that actually looks a little bit cinematic..................................

On closer inspection I think they may need more shading but this may be because I'm up close. My painting aim is that from 4 ft away they look like a good looking army as a whole, not for individual brilliance.

They're split into 4 units of 5 to comply with the scenario, with each unit rather imaginatively entitled one of the North, South, East and West Archers (named after their Watchtowers, luckily only one of these is on the battlefield).

I've modeled them on the extremes of their bases so that they'll rank up into units of ten in normla games.

Here the East and North Archers are facing off against "The Claw", a unit of Gobbo Stikkas that I have used "Iron Claw" Goblins to represent.

Righteo, I'm off to plough my way through the painting of a shed load of High Elf Spearmen cause I'm not just doing the 20 I need for the scenario oh no, not me (because I'm an idiot).

Board board board

In a bid to unashamedly copy an idea from Orlygg and Jonas  I decided to create myself a little board to be used for presentation of my painted minis. I also nicked a good idea from Foundry and knocked this up in less than 30 minutes. Not the painstaking flocking life for me!

What You Need:
  • Cork Notice Board (You can pick these up for less than a tenner)
  • Hanging Basket Moss Effect Liner (I picked up some from Amazon, sold as a roll 200cm x 60cm although it turned up more like a blanket folded not rolled)
  • A Glue Gun
  • Scissors.

How to Do It:
  1. Cut a rectangle of the liner slightly larger than the notice board.
  2. Next put a line of glue along one of the long edges of the notice board about half an inch in from the frame.
  3. Now stick down one of the long edges of the liner to the same long edge of the board
  4. Leave it aside for a couple of minutes for the glue to cool and set.
  5. Repeat for all four sides.
  6. Tuck the excess on the edges under the frame.
(NB: I would of taken step by step photos but a) It's so simple I don't think anyone copying this could get it wrong and, more importantly, b) I forgot)

Here's a close up of what the texture looks like

So, cheap as chips, very sturdy and dead easy to make, what more could a fella on a budget want?

Here's a sneak peak of my High Elf Archers for "The Battle for Maugthrond Pass" on it to show off what it looks like with minis on it.

It's a sneak peak as I'm one Archer short as a bow snapped and disappeared during painting. Luckily I found a spare and he's in the process of being painted at the moment to join his fellows. As soon as he's done I'll do a proper post about them.

I'm considering making at least one more but by cutting the liner and leaving a bare strip running down the middle which I'll sand/gravel to create a road. There's also no reason not to try the same trick to create a river too using a water effect solution or inked PVA.

Anyhow, I'd best crack on, I've got a mountain more Elves to paint!

Thanks for reading my drivel, any comments welcome as usual.

Thank Gob, Nearly There

I've nearly finished painting Gobbos for "The Battle for Maugthrond Pass".

Well, in actual fact I've now painted enough to represent all Gobbos that I need but I want to add a few more to make the mobs playable outside of the scenario.

First up are the last few recruits to the "Bone Mob". I still need to add shields and a Standard.

In the scenario the "Bone Mob" is 16 strong with no Champion, Standard Bearer or Musician. I've now painted 20 Gobbos for this mob in order to take them up to minimum needed for a Gobbo unit in 3rd Edition.

Here's a few close ups of the Champion.

He looks like he may need to be high level officer, a right hand Gobbo/rival to Grom within the "Broken Axe".

The whole unit looks rather cool.

Next up are some more stikkas, firstly four more members of "The Fang Stikkas" who in my interpretation of the scenario are also member of Grom's own "Broken Axe" tribe.

I still have a leader for these guys and I'm child like excited to get him done, but only because he's a memorable mini from my childhood.

Next up is a single addition to "the Stingers", another mob of stikkas.

This is the smallest mob in the scenario at 8 strong. Outside of the scenario they'll be absorbed into the 12 strong "Fang Stikkas" (I'll also come up with my own name) and this will make the minimum 20 strong requirement needed for stikkas in 3rd Ed.

Last up are 3 Iron Claw Gobbos.

The spear armed dude will go into "The Iron Mob" for the scenario. The stikka will go into "The Claw Stikkas" and actually takes them up to 14 strong, 2 more than I need but I actually want to obtain 6 more to round this unit up to 20 also.

The central chap will be the leader of my Iron Claw Gobbos outside of the scenario.

Armed with a sword and a ball and chain this guy looks like a real menace.

Here's a shot of the lovely bright orange colour I've chosen as one of the two colours for my "Iron Claw" Goblins (the other being Army Painter Wolf Grey). I know some people won't like my "uniforming" of my Goblins but I just tend to find a limited palette  speeds up my painting time and is a little more pleasing to my eye.

That's your lot for tonight. As usual, it's not gonna win Golden Daemon but I'm more than happy to take them to the battlefield.

Thanks for taking the time to indulge me, any comments or constructive criticism you care to leave below is very welcome.
